Coquito (Puerto Rican Eggnog)

This is my favorite drink. Every Christmas/New Years Eve I crave this stuff. I'll throw a tantrum if my mom doesn't make it when I'm home for the holidays. I grew up with this drink as the definition of eggnog and boy has it set me up for disappointment.

A few years ago I tried store bought eggnog and almost spit it up. It was awful. I cringe when I see grocery stores stock their shelves with cartons of eggnog. Once you go coquito, there's no going back.

Coquito is a traditional Puerto Rican drink. It is rich and creamy and oh-so-good. It's not the healthiest drink, but I figure it's okay to indulge in it once a year! One website said, "coquitos are like eggnog on overdrive." So true.

I can't share the exact recipe because it's a family secret and my parents won't allow it. But, you can google recipes for it. We use sugar, eggs, evaporated milk, rum and cinnamon.
